Jazz has become one of the most popular dance styles in recent years, mainly due to its popularity in television shows, movies, music videos and commercials.  People enjoy watching jazz dancers, as the dancing is fun and energetic.

Jazz is a technical form of dance.  It is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns.  It is also fun and a good way to show your personality.

Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer's individual style and originality. Every jazz dancer interprets and executes moves and steps in their own way.  To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet, as it encourages grace and balance.

Dancers wishing to pursue Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Song & Dance, Lyrical or Contemporary should first establish a foundation in jazz technique.  For students ages 6+.


Wardrobe Requirements for JAZZ


Attire:  studio leotard (Capezio #CC202), dance shorts and black footless tights or leggings

Shoes:  black leather split sole jazz shoes (Bloch SO495)

Hair:  off the neck in a secure bun or French braid (NO BANGS PLEASE) 

Notes:  Additional coloured clothing may be worn over your leotard, but must be removed at instructor’s request.  Absolutely NO T-shirts are to be worn when in class.  On Ballet days, dancers may wear ballet tights to other classes as ballet tights MUST be worn to ALL ballet classes!

Hair:  combed and tidy
