intensive CHOREOGRAPHY Classes

Once dancers have met their technique requirements, they may add choreography classes. Competitive choreography classes are added based on age, experience, and audition placement. Dancers are encouraged to explore new styles as they grow, and may choose to audition for different disciplines from season to season.

Core Competitive Styles

Competitive choreography is offered in our three foundation styles:

  • Ballet

  • Jazz

  • Tap

These classes allow dancers to take the skills they have developed in their technique classes, and apply them to competitive choreography. They continue to strengthen artistry, performance quality, and stage presence.

Supplementary Styles

Broadway

Storytelling • Versatility • Expression

Broadway combines dance, acting, and musicality to bring stories to life on stage. Dancers develop character, stage presence, facial expression, and performance skills while learning choreography inspired by Broadway musicals and theatrical productions. Classes incorporate elements of a variety of dance styles, making this class a great way to develop versatility.

Hip-Hop

Energy • Confidence • Groove

Hip Hop is an energetic and expressive style that encourages individuality while developing rhythm, groove, musicality, and performance skills. Classes feature age-appropriate music and choreography while introducing dancers to a variety of hip hop techniques and styles in a fun, challenging environment.

AcroDance

Strength • Flexibility • Control

AcroDance blends acrobatic skills with dance technique to create seamless, dynamic movement. Following the internationally recognized Acrobatic Arts syllabus, dancers develop flexibility, balance, strength, limbering, tumbling, and partner skills while learning how to integrate acrobatics artistically into choreography.

*Competitive Acro dancers are required to attend a weekly Acro Technique class.

Lyrical

Emotion • Connection • Narrative

Lyrical combines the technical foundation of ballet with the fluidity and expression of jazz to create emotionally driven performances. Dancers learn to connect movement with music and lyrics while developing artistry, fluidity, and emotional expression. Every piece emphasizes both strong technique and authentic storytelling.

Contemporary

Innovation • Freedom • Exploration

Contemporary is a dynamic style that blends techniques with creative movement exploration. Dancers develop versatility, strength, floor work, improvisation, and artistic expression while exploring choreography that ranges from lyrical and fluid to powerful and athletic. A strong technical foundation in ballet and jazz is essential for success in contemporary dance.

Modern

Creativity • Release • Authenticity

Modern dance builds upon technique while encouraging dancers to move beyond traditional movement vocabulary. Through contractions, release, floor work, and expressive movement, dancers explore storytelling while developing strength and body awareness.

Looking for a Different Training Path?

Not every dancer chooses the full Intensive Program. Dancers who are looking for a lighter training schedule may wish to explore our Focused Competitive Program, which allows students to compete in select styles while taking fewer weekly technique classes.

Students may also choose to broaden their dance experience by adding one or more of our 10-Month Recreational Classes, providing the opportunity to explore new styles without the commitment of competitive choreography.
