COMPETITIVE CHOREOGRAPHY Classes
These classes may be added to a dancer's schedule once their foundation in the core styles and technique classes has been established.
All Intensive students must attend 4 Core Technique classes: Ballet twice-weekly and Jazz & Tap once per week
Choreography classes can be incorporated on top of the technique classes.
Dancers may choose which styles they wish to pursue and explore our various options from year to year. Auditions are held for each style.
Ballet / Jazz / Tap
Competitive Choreography classes are available for dancers GRADE 1 and up in the Core styles of BALLET, JAZZ, and TAP. As dancers grow they may wish to add supplementary styles to their dance schedule.
BROADWAY
Get this show on the road!
Musical Theatre is a vibrant blend of singing, acting, and dance; where storytelling comes to life through movement and expression. In this class, students will learn to lip-sync songs while using choreography and character work to convey emotion and narrative.
Drawing from jazz, tap, and ballet, dancers will explore foundational steps while developing key performance skills such as improv, character development, musicality, stage presence, and facial expression. Dancers wishing to pursue Musical Theatre must also have training in jazz, tap and ballet.
HIP HOP
Everyone can groove!
Hip Hop is a high-energy, expressive style that builds confidence, musicality, and athleticism — all while having a blast! This genre is a great choice for dancers looking to develop coordination, rhythm, and stage presence. All music that is selected is age-appropriate.
AcroDance
Bend and Flip!
AcroDance is based in te Acrobatic Arts syllabus and incorporates elements of jazz, modern, and ballet technique to create beautiful pictures and tableauxs throughout the piece. Dancers wishing to participate in AcroDance choreography for competitions must also take weekly acro technique classes.
LYRICAL
Beautiful and expressive!
This creative dance form stems from jazz and ballet. In this class, dancers will use the modern movement and style of jazz, while incorporating the strength, control and graceful movement of ballet. Lyrical dancers take on the role of an actor and tell a story through technique and emotion. When dancing lyrical, emotions and technique go hand in hand. Students wishing to take lyrical will be required to also take jazz and two ballet classes.
CONTEMPORARY
Contemporary Ballet!
This dance form is a combination of modern movement blended together with ballet technique. This style of dance can vary greatly depending on the choreographer; with the feeling of the dance ranging from being similar to modern jazz or to lyrical/ballet.
MODERN
Inverted Ballet!
This style of dance stems from ballet technique while using alterations such as contractions and flexed feet to express a mood. Modern dance allows the dancer to work with other elements of their body such as free movement. Modern dance often uses awkward-looking movements and “dreamlike” emotions to convey the choreographer’s unique story.
Dancers wishing to explore supplementary styles without the high commitment level of Competitive dance may wish to consider adding our 10-month Recreational Classes to their Intensive Core Technique package.
